No. While the approaches have some commonality such as operating within a trusting relationship, working to change thought and behavioural patterns, and in the moment mindfulness, the use of trance is confined to hypnotherapy.
To some extent this is a matter of personal preference. Neither offers a magical solution. Both work to enable you to address the challenges in your life and to make changes.
Hypnotherapy works directly with the unconscious mind.
Counselling offers the opportunity to identify and to work to address beliefs and behaviours. We all benefit at some point from having some one to talk things through with. As a skilled professional with many years of experience in working with people with a wide range of difficulites, I can enable you to consider how best to move on in your life, what skills and resources you already have and what skills would be helpful for you to develop.
I would always encourage you to adhere to the treatment that you have commenced. The therapeutic stance of the practitioner is different according to the approach. Should you wish to try another treatment it would therefore be wise to see another practitioner.
I am able to offer hypnotherapy to children from the age of 5 upwards. The solution focused hypnotherapy approach is easily adaptable to an age appropriate approach. Of course, this always needs to be done with the collaboration and support of the parent/guardian. I have an enhanced DBS certificate.
I offer counselling to people aged 18 years or over.
Yes, the service is confidential. Confidentiality is important and we will discuss the topic at the beginning of the session. There may be occasions, in order to ensure safe practice that I might need, with your consent, to talk to your GP or other associated professionals. This will be discussed in detail at the first consultation.
I would ask you to let me know with at least 48 hours notice. Likewise, I will endeavour to let you know as soon as possible should circumstance force me to need to cancel.
This may be possible if there is a space in your home where we could talk without interruption or disturbance. I would ask for travel expenses and would negotiate this on a case by case basis.
Ideally breaks in therapy need to be kept to a minimum so as to maintain momentum. Sometimes it is better to delay your starting therapy until sessions can be maintained regularly. Of course, at times this cannot be helped due to illness or other life events. In which case it is important to discuss this with me as soon as possible.
